The pandemic has pushed back the release dates of a lot of comics, but finally some books that were scheduled to come out are making their way to comic book stores and newsstands.  I’ve got a new story featured in World of Archie Jumbo Comics #99, which is now starting to show up on store shelves. It’s understandable if you don’t want to venture out to buy a physical copy, but luckily the book is available to order digitally from ComiXology or from the Archie Comics app.

Here’s the official write-up:

Script: Francis Bonnet, Ian Flynn
Art: Bill Galvan, Jeff Shultz, Jim Amash, Bob Smith, Glenn Whitmore, Jack Morelli
Cover: Jeff Shultz
On Sale Date: 5/13
192-page, full color comic
$7.99 U.S.

TWO NEW CLASSIC-STYLE STORIES: First, in “Almost Famous,” Archie gets the idea to try to become a famous YouTube star, tasking Jughead with filming his adventures around town and commenting on things he likes or doesn’t like about Riverdale’s dining, theaters, and shops. Unfortunately, when things start going wrong, Jughead might not be the only one filming! Then, in “Little Insights,” Detective Fu Chang helps Archie and Jughead during a school trip to China!

Some Comic Updates

So with the world being turned upside down right now, I thought I would share some comic updates.

Regarding Archie Comics, I had a couple of stories that were in the pipeline, but with comic book distribution being closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic — not to mention most comic book stores themselves being closed — there’s no way of knowing when those stories will be released. These closings affect not just books set to release by Archie Comics, but all comic books companies out there including Marvel and DC. I’ll keep everyone updated when I know more about when my stories might be published.

On a positive note, Suburban Fairy Tales will continue to release three days a week. In recent months I’ve changed the schedule from new strips every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday to every Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. The new schedule makes things easier for me so I’m going to stick with it going forward.

You may have noticed some tweaks to the Suburban Fairy Tales main website this past week. I had to do this due to some technical website mumbo jumbo, but I’m happy that it looks slightly better when viewed on a mobile device.

As of right now it still looks like New York Comic Con is still happening in October. I plan to have a table there again this year, but with every other major event closing down right now there’s no guarantee. I usually do a summer convention and that’s definitely not happening!

Hope everyone is staying healthy and safe in isolation and don’t play too much Animal Crossing.

A new Archie Digest releases today, which features two new stories this time — one by me and one by Ian Flynn. World of Archie Jumbo Comics #97 can be purchased at your local comic book store, bookstores, Amazon, the Archie Comics App, or wherever else you can find it! The official write up is as follows:

TWO NEW STORIES: First, in “Watch Yourself,” Archie’s been gifted a special new smart watch from Mr. Lodge—but his act of generosity is more than meets the eye! This watch is modified to allow him to observe and talk with Archie from anywhere at any time, including interrupting his dates with Veronica! Then in “Scaredy Cat,” Salem and his Uncle Mort sneak into a haunted castle seeking treasure—too bad Salem is absolutely terrified of ghosts and things that go bump in the night!

Script: Francis Bonnet, Ian Flynn
Art: Jeff Shultz, Chad Thomas, Bob Smith, Glenn Whitmore, Jack Morelli
Cover: Pat and Tim Kennedy, Bob Smith, Rosario “Tito” Peña
On Sale Date: 3/4
192-page, full color comic
$7.99 U.S.

Remembering Victor Gorelick, Archie Comics Editor-in-Chief

Last week, Victor Gorelick, Archie Comics Editor-in-Chief and comic book legend passed away. He has been a huge part of Archie Comics for almost his entire life. His influence on Archie Comics and the comic book industry as a whole was tremendous and inspiring.

Victor has edited every single story I’ve submitted to Archie Comics and his suggestions have always made my stories better. I have only met him in person a few times, but I always felt honored that he was the one reviewing my stories and ideas. He knew Archie better than anyone and I’m saddened that he is no longer with us. His legacy will always be remembered.

Archie Comics has a nice memorial for Victor Gorelick along with his biography on their website. I encourage everyone to give it a read and keep Victor and his family in your thoughts.
